There are two types of scientific grant available from the Trust , 'Full' and 'Pump Primer'.
For monitoring purposes, successful applicants are required to report back to the Trust at regular intervals using the report form provided below.
In 2009, the Trust awarded just over £200,000 in scientific grants which will fund 12 different projects (2 full, 10 pump primer).
FULL SCIENTIFIC GRANT - application procedure
To apply for a full grant, applicants must first complete and return by e-mail a brief initial application form (closing date for receipt of completed applications is 18 December each year).
All initial applications which meet the criteria set out by the Trust are forwarded to the members of the Scientific Advisory Committee for consideration. Successful applicants will be advised that they are through to the next stage and will be asked to complete a much more detailed application form which must be returned by e-mail no later than 31 March.
The applications are then sent for peer review, and a shortlist is drawn up - usually 5-6 applications reach this stage. The shortlisted applicants are invited to attend an interview at the next Scientific Advisory Committee meeting (usually in July each year).
The Scientific Advisory Committee will then make their recommendations to the Board of Trustees, and successful applicants will be advised shortly after the next Trustees' meeting (usually held in September each year).
